Jewellery Care
How to clean, wear and store your pieces so they keep their shine.
Solid gold
Solid gold doesn’t oxidise or discolour, but skin oils and everyday wear can dull its lustre over time.
- Clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush.
- Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Avoid contact with harsh chemicals like chlorine.
Sterling silver
Sterling silver tarnishes as it reacts with air and moisture. Wearing it often slows this down, because contact with your skin keeps it polished.
- Keep it in an airtight bag when you aren’t wearing it.
- Use a silver polishing cloth to restore shine.
- Remove before swimming or bathing.
Gemstones
Gemstones vary. Some are porous and can be damaged by heat or chemicals.
- Avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless you are sure the stone is safe.
- Pearls and opals should be cleaned only with a soft, damp cloth.
- Put on perfume and lotion before your jewellery.
Storage
Good storage stops pieces scratching each other and fine chains tangling.
- Store pieces individually in their original boxes or pouches.
- Keep chains fastened to avoid knotting.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
